The experienced Denmark international, who severed ties with Premier League giants at Old Trafford when his contract ended, was available as a free agent. He was approached by the Red Dragons after finding himself without a club.

No deal was done at that point, with Eriksen of the opinion that he could still play top-flight football somewhere. He remained available, though, until September 10 – when a new challenge was finally taken on with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

Wrexham had asked questions of Eriksen’s representatives again by that point, with Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney refusing to give up an ambitious bid to bring the 33-year-old Dane on board.
