Philippe Clement was more than satisfied with his team’s performance in the 1-0 victory over St. Johnstone in Perth on Sunday afternoon.
“Today all the team was missing was to score a second, third or fourth goal to finish off our opponent – which we did well against Nice but today we were up against a really good goalkeeper. It’s also of course important not to concede a goal – but St. Johnstone only had one shot on target.
“We need to continue in that way – keeping clean sheets and being defensively strong. I see a lot of improvements throughout the squad.”

The Ibrox Boss was full of praise for Ianis Hagi, who made his first start since May 2023 and James Tavernier, who returned as Captain and played a leading role in the victory.
“Ianis was good on the ball, creative, and was involved with the goal. It was a positive performance – but he has been working hard in training. He offers us another offensive option – we are still missing some players with Tom Lawrence, Oscar Cortes, Rabbi Matondo.
“James can get all the credit today for sure. He was decisive on the ball, and sound defensively. That’s what I want to see for the rest of the season – he showed today that he’s still a very important player for us.
“Is a player happy with not playing every game? Probably not – but that’s part of football, certainly in modern football. We need rotation because of the number of games we are playing this season.”
