David Ginola only represented Newcastle United for two years between 1995 and 1997, but it appears that the Frenchman, who retired from professional football in 2002 after a spell at Everton, is still a popular figure at St James’ Park.
The 50-year-old was known for his wand of a left foot, and he had a glittering career that also included spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur.
After watching Newcastle secure a return to the Premier League on Monday night with a 4-1 victory over Preston North End, the 17-time France international took to Twitter to ‘welcome his former team back’ to the big league.
It has not been all plain sailing for Newcastle this season, but they have secured a return to the Premier League with two games to spare, and planning for the 2017-18 campaign can now begin.
Ginola, despite his youthful looks, is now too old to return to the professional game, but if some Newcastle supporters had it their way, the Frenchman would be turning out at St James’ Park once again next season.
