According to The Birmingham Mail, Darren Moore faces a selection dilemma after the international break due to Hal Robson-Kanu’s brilliant display against Leeds.
The former Welsh international was many people’s man of the match against Marcelo Bielsa’s men, as The Baggies took the former league leaders apart at The Hawthorns. He opened the scoring in that affair and continued to terrorise The Whites until he was substituted.
The Baggies were going through a terrible spell before the Leeds victory. That result arrested their four match winless run, which had seen them plummet down the table. As a result, fans and pundits alike have got rather giddy about that performance, calling for who must and must not play for The Baggies.
However, while this result must have put a lot of minds at ease, people must look at the bigger picture at West Brom. Before this lean spell, Moore’s men were the most impressive attack in the league. Even though they only scored two goals in four games prior to the Leeds result, they are still significantly ahead on the goalscoring charts in the league.
Although Dwight Gayle is returning from injury, he did enough before to warrant a place straight back in the team, regardless of how well Robson-Kanu performed. Clearly, the best attack at West Brom and the league so far this season has been the duo of Gayle and Jay Rodriguez up front, with Harvey Barnes just behind. Robson-Kanu can push those for a place, but he hasn’t done enough.
After such a barren spell, some managers and fans can become impulsive regarding selection. But West Brom have already proven what their best attack is this season, and they should be given a chance to prove it again.
