Liverpool have been rocked by the news that Martin Kelly will not be available again until 2013 after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The versatile defender limped out of the Reds’ clash with Manchester United on Sunday, which Brendan Rodgers’ men lost 2-1 at Anfield; the club’s official website have confirmed the extent of the damage.
“Martin Kelly is likely to be out of action for a significant period of time after scans revealed he suffered an ACL rupture of his right knee during the match against Manchester United on Sunday,” the statement reads.
“The England international will now require ACL reconstruction.”
The Merseysiders are also sweating on reports on the extent of injuries to Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini.
Both senior players also picked up ailments in the weekend’s clash, and the medical staff are set to diagnose the pair on Tuesday with MRI scans.
