Sunday was an emotional day for all those connected to Arsenal football club as they bid farewell to manager Arsene Wenger, as well as defender Per Mertesacker.
The Gunners have two Premier League games left – against Leicester City and Huddersfield – but at the weekend the club staged their final home fixture of the season.
It was the last time that Wenger will oversee a match at the Emirates as he calls time on his two-decade spell at the North London outfit.
The majority of the focus, understandably, surrounded the manager, but Mertesacker was also marking his final home fixture at Arsenal.
The German World Cup winner, who has won four club trophies across his career, will hang up his boots and the end of the season to become Arsenal’s new academy manager.
Some fans think that the 33-year-old will one day take over the senior team, but right now the Gunners are considering immediate options to replace Wenger.

Following Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Burnley, Mertesacker waved goodbye to the crowd and received a standing ovation.
On Twitter, the fans posted emotional messages to the defender, who has been at the club since 2011 when he signed from Werder Bremen.
