West Ham’s U23 captain Moses Makasi has opened the door for a loan away from the club in January, quoted by Football.London.
What’s the word?
Manuel Pellegrini has struggled to find his feet at West Ham this season as the Hammers have lost six of their opening nine Premier League matches, raising the pressure heading into a crucial run of fixtures in the coming weeks.
Changes seem necessary and Pellegrini may dip into his reserves to provide inspiration to help get West Ham back on track and U23 captain Moses Makasi is hoping to earn his chance – and is ready to leave on loan in January if he does not get an opportunity.
Speaking to Football.London, Makasi outlined his plans for the 2018-19 season after recently returning from a lengthy injury layoff to feature in West Ham U23’s over Swansea City on Sunday.
What was said?
“At first, just getting more minutes in [is the aim] but then after that, to see where I can go for the first team. If that doesn’t work out then hopefully I’ll go on a loan move, I did well with Plymouth last season so I’ll be looking to push on from last season.”
What should be done?
West Ham’s midfield is short of options, especially following the injuries sustained by Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez, so handing Makasi an opportunity in the first-team picture would be a wise move from Pellegrini.

The Hammers should utilise the 23-year-old in the coming months to make an assessment on his performances before then deciding whether he can continue to be a useful asset for the remainder of the campaign or whether another loan move would be beneficial.
Pellegrini’s side are still in the EFL Cup, facing a stern test against Tottenham next week, and, although that game may come too soon for a player who has only recently returned to the frame, domestic cup competitions provide the best opportunity for the Hammers to mix things up.
