Liverpool are interested in signing Vitesse Arnhem left-back Max Clark, according to Football Insider.
On the chalkboard
The Premier League leaders have identified the 23-year-old as a target after being drawn in by the impressive statistics he has recorded this season.
Jurgen Klopp is looking to recruit a left-back to provide cover for Andrew Robertson, and it seems as though Clark is the chosen man to fulfil that role.
It is added that if Liverpool do not sign him during the January window they will look to in the summer, with Clark’s contract at the Dutch outfit coming to an end in the summer of 2021.
A good fit
Robertson has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side with his all-action style, making 24 starts and two substitute appearances across the Premier League and Champions League this season, getting two goals and six assists.
In the league, he averages 1.8 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game, offering an indication of his stellar defensive contributions.
No clues: Can you name the season these iconic Liverpool images belong to?
The 25-year-old is also effective on the ball, making 1.5 key passes, 0.6 dribbles and 1 cross on average.
It would take a lot for Clark to usurp the Scotland international to become the main left-back, but there is enough in his statistics to show than he can be a useful alternative option when needed, slotting in with a similar style.
In 17 Eredivisie appearances, he has recorded one goal and three assists so far. Outside of that, his attacking influence can be seen from his 1.6 key passes, 0.5 dribbles and 1.9 crosses per game.
Defensively, the 23-year-old makes an impressive 3.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game – highlighting a definite defensive astuteness.
Ahead of England’s matches against Kosovo and Montenegro, he was even placed in England’s best statistical lineup by Sky Sports.
Liverpool have already shown their ability to get value this transfer window with the signing of Takumi Minamino and could do so again here.
In other news, Liverpool fans reacted to Klopp’s admission about one of his midfielders.
