According to reports in the Daily Mail on August 19, Premier League new boys Brighton and Hove Albion have launched a £10m bid for highly-rated Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore.
The Daily Mail says that the Seagulls are keen to bring the Danish centre-forward to the south coast in order to boost their attacking options – no surprise given they are yet to find the net in their opening two fixtures in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Championship side Leeds United would have hoped that they could have kept hold of last season’s 30-goal striker Chris Wood for the current campaign, but the 25-year-old joined Burnley in a £15m deal on Monday.
It means that Whites boss Thomas Christiansen will be looking for a replacement for the New Zealand international before the window slams shut next Thursday, and he may decide to take a closer look at the Cardiff man.
Here are three reasons Leeds should hijack Brighton’s bid to sign Zohore…
Goals
With 27 Championship goals and 30 in all competitions last season, Christiansen knows he is under a little bit of pressure to bring in a replacement for Chris Wood that is almost guaranteed to have a similar impact at this level.
Having scored 12 times in 29 league games for Cardiff last term, and one in four appearances during the current campaign, signing Zohore would be something of a safe bet as he has proven that he can find the net on a regular basis if he is given the opportunities by his teammates.
If Leeds are to break into the play-off positions this time around, those goals from the Dane could prove to be vital to their hopes of finally returning to the Premier League.
Physicality
While new boy Caleb Ekuban stands at 6’2″ tall, Christiansen may feel that he needs another tall and physical striker to fill the void that Wood has left at Leeds, and Zohore has certainly proven during his time with Cardiff that he would do that.
The 6’3″ Dane showed his ability in the air for the Welsh side last season by winning 100 headed duels in 23 Championship appearances, but he isn’t just a one-dimensional player and he showed his confidence on the ball too by also successfully completing 16 of the 34 take-ons that he attempted.
Potential
While he could cost £10m or more, Leeds would certainly see Zohore as an investment considering the potential that he has.
The 23-year-old has impressed many with his performances for Cardiff – including Brighton in the Premier League – while he scored eight goals in 20 appearances for the Denmark Under-21 national side.
Leeds will want to find a Wood replacement that would be able to make the jump up to the Premier League with them at the end of the current season if they win promotion, and the Yorkshire outfit would be confident that the centre-forward could do exactly that.
